I am 62 and was diagnosed with diabetes in October 2009. In my lifetime, I have not dealt with any medications very well. I have gone to herb classes and read and got on the internet for my answers. Before Diabetes, I was taking C-Thyroid Dessicated 90 mg that Weise Prescription Shop made for me with my Dr's prescription. The only other things I take were herbs (listed in the "Prescription for Nutritional Healing" book by Phyllis A. Balch, CNC and "The Complete Encyclopedia of Natural Healing" by Gary Null, Ph.D.) for specific conditions I have had When I went in to get "metformin" I picked up a book called "Reversing Diabetes" by Julian Whitaker, MD (Who is also author of Reversing Hypertension and Reversing Heart Disease). I went home and got on the internet too. I took metformin (about 1 mo) had numerous problems worse than before taking it. The book and internet talked about getting yourself a plan and looking at alternatives to oral meds. When I went in to see my Dr in early Dec, I told him of my alternative plan and I had lost weight (averaging 2# a week since Oct). I had my meal plan, herbs list, exercise plan with me. He said there were alternatives to the oral meds, but for now to keep doing what I was with the herbs, meals, exercising, and most importantly weight. I was at 228#. This morning I'm 199#.

Cinnamon helps control blood sugar. You can just sprinkle it on your food, of course, but you can also find cinnamon capsules in the vitamins and supplements aisle at your local drugstore.
