My wife was diagnosed about 6 months ago - doc started her on gliclazide and she's now up to the maximum 4 tablets/day - 320mg - but her sugar levels are still very unstable - anywhere between 6 and 18. Is it normal for it to take so long for type 2 diabetics to get their sugar down? She has cut out soft drinks etc and eats very modestly - has to be very careful because gliclazide causes weight gain.

Hi! Sometimes even type 2 diabetics have to use insulin. I think your wife would talk to her doctor about it.
