I recently have been diagnosed with type 1 diabetes and scared by people's reaction, like I'm going to inevitably die in pain and nothing can be done to live a normal life. although doctors in my clinic are telling me that diabetes can be controlled. Please advise

You can live a long and healthy life as long as you control your diabetes. There are plenty of tools available to help you and plenty of support if you take advantage of it.

I strongly suggest that if you are Type 1 and aren't on an insulin pump you consider looking into one. They are one of the best tools out there to help you maintain you diabetes. Changing nothing in my sons eating and dosing, just using the pump his A1C dropped from 10.1 to 7.9 in a matter of a month. If you are Type 2, eat healthy, lose some weight if suggested at least try to minimize your insulin needs.

I know the disease is hard and can be overwhelming. You may want to rebel against it because it is unfair and you'd rather ignore it, but don't! Those are the ONLY things that can cut your life short.

Test yourself, dose your self and you can live a healthy long life.

My ex's great grandmother was diagnosed with type 1 in her 30's she recently passed away at the age of 97 from a heart attack. She still had all her limbs and her vision. She always took care of it, she controlled it. She did have some lack of sensation in her hands and feet however you have to remember... back when she was diagnosed they urinated on a stick to test blood sugar, a very inaccurate testing measure, and they didn't have insulin pumps. Despite that she lived a long life.
